2011 US Open Online Broadcast

Ah, another U.S. Open. I can’t wait. This has to be my favorite PGA Tour major (that’s why I watch it in it’s entirety on the internet, even while I’m at work). The courses for the U.S. Open just seem to give the world’s best golfers fits, and for awhile I think they feel my pain every time I step foot onto a course.

But, enough about me and my woes on the golf course. I set this blog up to help my fellow PGA Tour fans find out how to watch the U.S. Open online live. I can’t believe how many golfers don’t know how to do this.

You need a few things to watch it live (keep in mind, I’m keeping this very basic for my computer illiterate peers out there):

  1. You need a computer or laptop. No need for anything fancy here. Just something that is running good. Any old version of Windows will work, and this will work with Macs as well
  2. You need a hi-speed Internet connection. Cable, DSL, or Wi-Fi is what you must have. Dial-up users may be able to get a decent audio feed, but video is almost out of the question for you guys.
  3. You need a TV watching software. Now, I say you need this because this is how I do it. And, in my opinion, there is no better way. Because you can waste a lot of time searching on the Internet for a live stream feed and never find one. Get this software that will instantly connect you to hundreds of sports channels that air golf, basketball, football, baseball, hockey, boxing, MMA, NASCAR, and, not to mention thousands of TV shows and movies.

The 2011 U.S. Open is setting up a bit different from recent years. Eventhough, it is at a familiar place at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, for the first time in I don’t know how many years Tiger Woods is not even in the top 10 ranked golfers in the world (most people don’t even know who Luke Donald is or where he is from, and he is ranked #1, currently). And, there are doubts that Tiger will even make it too the U.S. Open on June 16th because of a nagging injury. But, it’s major. Surely, he will show. And, if anyone could just show up, play lights out, and win the tournament leave it to Tiger to accomplish such a feat.
